Excerpt from movie "Quicksand," directed by Mike Depies
My name is Matt Fuerbringer. I am an eight time AVP Open Champion, NCAA Champion, 2003 AVP Rookie of the Year, part of the #2 ranked American Team on the FIVB World Tour in 2010, proud co-director of Mizuno Long Beach and Team Rockstar youth volleyball clubs, passionate surfer and father of two.
If the Olympics were today, Nick, my beach partner, and I would be representing the USA in London. Over the next two years we will be chasing our Olympic dream across the globe.
In addition to playing volleyball, I write a monthly article in Dig Magazine, called “10 things to know about beach volleyball”, and am a board member for the Professional Beach Volleyball Association(PBVA). My wife and I own a volleyball club consisting of about 260 boys and girls from 8-18 years old. We are considered a top 5 junior club in the entire country and have won multiple medals. We recently turned an 18.000 sq. foot warehouse into the MAC Athletic Club, where we train all of our athletes and feature a weight room, cafe and 3 indoor volleyball courts.
This year I will play in 13 FIVB events. The world championships will be shown live on NBC and every other semi-final and final will be telecasted on NBC Universal. Domestically I will play in 6-8 events across the country. Four of the events will be shown live on VS’s while the rest of the coverage from the tournaments will be aired live on the internet and sold regionally to local stations. There are very good odds that the Manhattan Beach Open in the last week of August will be shown on a major network as well.
I’m writing this blog to allow companies that are potential sponsors to know who I am, what I’ve done, and what my plan moving forward is. Any company that chooses to co-brand with me over the next two years will be chasing the Olympic dream with me, coaching and impacting over 250 kids per year with me, and raising two kids along the way. Love for you to hop on board for the ride.
